HOW TO ARRANGE FOR
TRANSPORTATION

STAR: Call 343-1721 Ext.. 3 between 8:00 a.m.. and 5:00 p.m.. Monday through Sunday.

CORTRAN: Call 343-1721 Ext.. 4 between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.

You will be asked to provide the following information to the dispatcher:

  • Your identification number and name
  • Your desired pick-up time
  • Your destination, building name, and address
  • Your return time

STAR

5:45 a.m. to 8:45 p.m. Monday - Saturday

CORTRAN

7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Monday - Friday
Service is not provided for the STAR Line Program on New Years Day, Memorial Day, July Fourth, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day.

Service is not provided for the CORTRAN Program on New Years Day, Good Friday, Memorial Day, July Fourth, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day and the following Friday, and Christmas Day.

FARES

STAR: One way fare is $3.00. Tickets or monthly passes can be purchased in advance by calling 982-2222 for passengers who find this more convenient than carrying cash.

CORTRAN: One way fare is $3.50. Tickets
can be purchased in advance by calling
772-2006 for passengers who find this
more convenient than carrying cash.

POLICIES

  • All service is curb to curb
  • Demand response reservations must be made by phone at least one day in advance of requested service between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.
  • Notice of cancellation should be as soon as possible, but no later than one hour before pick-up time.
  • Please be courteous and respect your fellow passengers
  • Shirts and shoes are required
  • Smoking, eating, drinking, littering, or the consumption of alcoholic beverages is not permitted.
  • Pets are not permitted unless used as a service animal and it must be on a leash.
  • Passengers must remain seated with seat belts fastened while the bus is in motion.
  • RADAR has the authority to refuse service to, or suspend from service, anyone who is unwilling to obey the above policies.

BAD WEATHER

The CORTRAN Ridership program will not be in service if the Roanoke County Schools are closed. if you still have questions please call RADAR's Dispatch office at 343-1721 Ext. 4.

HOW TO QUALIFY FOR
RADAR SERVICES

STAR: You must contact Valley Metro if you live in the City of Roanoke, Vinton, or Salem. Call 982-2222 and request an application for the STAR program to be mailed to you. You need to fill out the application completely and send back to Valley Metro for approval. The approval process generally takes about two weeks.

CORTRAN: You must be a Roanoke County resident and be Certified by the County of Roanoke as a senior citizen (60 years or older) or as ADA Paratransit Eligible prior to arranging service. Application forms are available at the Roanoke County Administration Center located at 5204 Bernard Drive, Roanoke, or one can be mailed to you by calling 772-2006 during their regular business hours 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.
